Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Kelahmetoglu

Dr. Kelahmetoğlu, who was born in Adana, graduated from Adana Erkek High School in 1999 and from Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine in 2005. In 2005, he started working as a Research Assistant at the Department of Plastic Surgery in Ondokuz Mayıs University, Samsun.

After completing his specialization training, he served as a plastic surgery specialist at Tarsus State Hospital from March 2012 to December 2014 as part of his compulsory service. During his specialization training, he worked as a clinical fellow in “Aesthetic Surgery and Body Contouring” at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery Center in the state of Texas, United States. Additionally, he acted as a clinical observer in “Post-bariatric body contouring surgery” at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, also in the United States. From December 2014 to November 2020, he worked at Bezmialem Foundation University Department of Plastic Surgery. Since November 2020, he has been continuing his work at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic Surgery.

In 2015, Dr. Kelahmetoğlu won the overseas scholarship award from the Turkish Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery. As a result, he spent 3 months as a clinical fellow at Ghent University in Gent, Belgium, focusing on “Aesthetic-Reconstructive Breast Surgery and Perforator Flaps.”

During his time at Gent University, he delved into the field of aesthetic and reconstructive procedures related to breast surgery, with a specific focus on the utilization of perforator flaps. This experience allowed him to gain valuable insights and expertise in the application of advanced microsurgical techniques for breast reconstruction and enhancement.

Participating in international training opportunities like this allowed Dr. Kelahmetoğlu to enrich his knowledge and skills, contributing to his growth as a plastic surgeon and enabling him to offer state-of-the-art solutions to his patients in Turkey.

In 2016, Dr. Kelahmetoğlu was awarded the “Young Plastic Surgeons” scholarship by the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS). As a recipient of this prestigious scholarship, he had the opportunity to work as a clinical fellow at Helsinki University in Helsinki, Finland, focusing on “Reconstructive Breast Surgery.”

During his fellowship at Helsinki University, Dr. Kelahmetoğlu further specialized in the field of reconstructive breast surgery. He gained valuable experience and knowledge in various techniques and approaches for breast reconstruction, contributing to his expertise in providing comprehensive care for patients seeking breast reconstruction after mastectomy or other breast-related issues.

The EURAPS scholarship and the subsequent fellowship in Helsinki allowed him to collaborate with leading experts in the field, exchange knowledge, and bring back innovative practices to enhance his practice in Turkey.
